I don’t care what anyone says, the end of the 2005 Royal Rumble is the greatest Royal Rumble moment in history. How could it not be? A botched ending led to a tie and absolute chaos, before the boss runs down to the ring, pulls both quads and berates a ring filled with men while sitting on his arse. It holds up beautifully today.

You don’t need to be an expert in body language and facial psychology to see how pissed Vince McMahon was at this moment. The 2005 Royal Rumble was supposed to be the moment when his two new megastars announced themselves to the world, setting both on route to world title wins at WrestleMania. John Cena and Batista turned out okay, but both could be forgiven for thinking that they had blown their chance at stardom here. After all, Vince McMahon was blowing a gasket at them on live TV.

It will never not be funny. You could argue that nobody has ever been angrier at a Royal Rumble spot than Vince McMahon was in that moment. It is never nice to laugh at another’s discomfort, but a notoriously feisty billionaire blowing out both tires before berating two jacked-up dudes? Priceless.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
