Was it the straw that broke the camel’s back? We’ll never be completely sure, but it damn sure was the last time fans ever saw CM Punk on WWE TV. The current AEW star had spent as good as 50 minutes in the match, entering at number one and outlasting most of the field before becoming the 27th man eliminated. The man who threw him over the top rope? Kane, of course.

There are a lot of problems with this. First of all, Kane had already been eliminated. A long, long time ago. In fact, Kane was the second person eliminated from the Rumble, dispatched by Punk in the early going. His showing up to eliminate Punk a good 40+ minutes later was jarringly out of the blue, even for WWE.

The whole thing was supposed to build to a Punk/Triple H match at WrestleMania XXX, but that obviously never came to be. Punk made it clear to management that he didn’t want non-combatant Kane throwing him out, but management went ahead with the plan regardless. Enough was enough and Punk was out the door, never to be seen in WWE again.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
