10 Wrestlers Who Have Become More Inspiring Since They Retired

3. Jake Roberts

Similarly to Scott Hall, Jake 'The Snake' Roberts was a favourite choice to wind up dead. It seemed only a matter of time before Jake would shuffle off this mortal coil, because he'd bought a one-way ticket on the 'Self Destruction Tour', addicted to alcohol and drugs, and there didn't seem to be any way back for the man.

To this day, Roberts plainly states that had it not been for Diamond Dallas Page, he would never have made it. Badly needing someone to tell him they believed in him and could see the good side to his personality, the former WWF and WCW star found that in DDP, someone who gave him the support he needed to turn his life around.

Since then, Jake has been inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame, and speaks openly about how close he was to death. During one podcast interview hosted by Jim Ross, Roberts chillingly says that he actually wished he could just die at one point, but he now stands tall as an excellent example of always having something to life for.
