10 Wrestlers Who Have Never Been Better Than Right Now
3. Jon Moxley
Ordinarily, it would be preposterous to suggest that a former Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion, Tag Team Champion, and of course WWE Champion would be doing better after leaving the biggest wrestling company in the world, but Jon Moxley is no ordinary man.
Where some anticipated a CM Punk-esque sabbatical following his departure from WWE, Moxley has done the exact opposite. Far from being burnt out, the former Dean Ambrose has showcased his abilities when given the freedom to express himself in the ring; winning the IWGP United States Championship and putting in a sensational showing in this year's NJPW G1 Climax.
His shock return prior to all this occurred at All Elite Wrestling's 'Double Or Nothing' event in Las Vegas. I was lucky enough to be in attendance as he attacked Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega post-match, and he blew the roof off the MGM Grand Garden Arena before breaking the wrestling internet.
A staph infection in his elbow may have frustrated plans, but anticipation for his match with Kenny Omega at Full Gear next month is at fever pitch, only enhanced by their constant interactions on AEW Dynamite.
Moxley has lead the way for WWE wrestlers who feel underutilised or stymied. After years of feeling disheartened doing sports entertainment, Moxley is back simply pro wrestling, putting in some of the best performances of his career and bloody loving it.
