10 Wrestlers Who Have SERIOUSLY Regressed In The Ring

5. Samoa Joe

It hurts to put the Samoan Submission Machine here, especially after his untimely WWE release. However, his time spent inside the squared circle has indeed regressed from his glory days. That doesn't mean he's lost his magic, as Joe is still terrifying to watch in the ring, but he's no longer the five-star matchmaker type.

Towards the end of his time in WWE, Joe was killing it outside the ring on commentary because of injury. Now that he's been released from the company, fans might get to see him step back into the ring for another promotion, and while that is a tantalising prospect, it probably won't live up to the legacy he's left behind.

His multiple decade-spanning career has been mostly full of highs, as the big man's agility, submission expertise, and unique offence made him one of the most exciting wrestlers outwith the world's biggest promotions. When he finally made it to WWE, he was hotter than the sun and even found success on the main roster, coming ever so close to dethroning Brock Lesnar.

But his booking became inconsistent, and so did his matches, as the singles bouts in the latter stages of his career - like the Kofi Kingston Extreme Rules PPV match - were a shadow of what you'd expect from this icon. His movements were slower, his agility was shot and he lacked the hungry fire he once had.
