10 Wrestlers Who Made Their WWE Debut In Marquee Matches
6. Floyd Mayweather - WrestleMania 24
Other than UFC, one of the most obvious sports for professional wrestling to draw from is boxing. The company have had some great moments with this kind of crossover. Mike Tyson's involvement, for example, the previously mentioned Tyson Fury, and of course, Floyd 'Money' Mayweather.
WWE made some very surprising but successful decisions in regards to Mayweather's involvement with WrestleMania XXIV. Entering him into a feud with The Big Show made for a great dynamic contrast which is, of course, something you cannot get in boxing. This instantly made the event special for Mayweather as he had never faced such an opponent in his life.
This was a general point in his debut as the match displayed how much freedom and creativity can come from wrestling. By contrasting his boxing style with a non-disqualification stipulation, Mayweather got to employ some great showmanship and narrative skill.
Whilst the actual wrestling quality wasn't too impressive. The use of Mayweather's entourage, weapons and the fans' general desire to see Big Show destroy the arrogant boxer made the overall experience fun to be a part of.
To even appear on the WrestleMania card is an honour many performers never achieve. So to be granted a main event spot at the event is unbelievable, especially seeing as this was so clearly a one-time appearance.
