10 Wrestlers Who Made Their WWE Debut In Marquee Matches
7. Tyson Fury - Crown Jewel 2019
WWE needs to make money and to do that they often employ notable names to make their PPV events sell. One such name was that of Tyson Fury.
The boxer's charisma and success made him a noteworthy star in the combat sports world, thus it was inevitable that WWE would eventually take interest. Fury was given the chance to debut with the company at Crown Jewel in a strong position on the card against Braun Strowman.
Overall this was well publicised and achieved what it needed to, but the match quality was lacking and overall boring to watch. Fury was not particularly adept in-ring and pairing him against Strowman seemed ill-fitting as the Monster Among Men specialises against smaller opponents.
In addition, the count-out ending was anticlimactic and illogical. WWE couldn't truly allow Fury to box Strowman as it would make for a poor wrestling spectacle, so he only employed his signature skills at the climax. Whilst this was done to protect his reputation, it made him appear stupid for not thinking to use his talent to end the match early.
The debut was fine but lacked any significant display of potential for the "Gypsy King". This could be down purely to the booking, but his lack of wrestling skill certainly didn't help.
