10 Wrestlers Who Modelled Their Whole Style On Other Wrestlers
5. The Revival - The Brain Busters
Arguably the best example of one wrestler (in this case, wrestlers) taking virtually everything that made someone else great and repackaging it perfectly for a new generation, The Revival are both a loving tribute of The Brain Busters and a living, breathing, performing TED Talk on why they were so important to the industry.
They walk like them, they talk like them, they wrestle like them, they dress like them and, in their famous NXT matches with American Alpha, then even created the perfect spiritual sequels to their era-defining clashes with The Hart Foundation and The Rockers. In Dash and Dawson WWE had a brand new Anderson and Blanchard and had no idea what to do with them.
Even the ring name 'The Revival' is a direct ode to the Brain Busters. Their entire gimmick was about bringing back and 'reviving' the golden era of 1980s tag-team wrestling, going back to more traditional, mat-based in-ring work as a contrast to the explosive high-flying teams popularised over the previous two decades.
Far from just trying to copy them, The Revival's entire style was set out to educate pro-wrestling fans. "Look at us" the gimmick said, "there was an entire industry like this once, and you should get off your ass and watch it".
