Picking back up with The Bionic Redneck and a seriously turbulent 2002 spell, a few months removed from his already noted no-showing of the flagship, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin once again decided that it wasn't in his best interest to show up to work on a Monday night.

With the company still not utilising The Texas Rattlesnake in the way he felt he should've been at that point in his career, news of Austin being primed for a clean loss to the up-and-coming Brock Lesnar was the straw that ultimately broke this already battered icon's back.

As Austin would reveal later down the road to Barstool Sports:

"...it wasn’t time for me to do the favours yet for Brock in an unadvertised match in a tournament-style TV match whereas hey, man, I love Brock Lesnar, I’d lose to him any day of the week, but build it up so we can all make money off of it and it’s going to mean something."

Austin's infamous taking of his ball and going home paved the way for numerous on-screen burials of McMahon's once-prized star. However, the two sides were able to agree to a return for the legend by the end of the year, with McMahon handing Austin a $650,000 fine for his actions - though, that amount was ultimately lowered to a still eye-watering $250,000 after some 'Stone Cold' negotiations.
