Brock Lesnar losing is a rarity. So it’s almost shocking to learn he refused to win a match against Goldberg (who hadn’t wrestled in 12 years) at Survivor Series. The match came together after the moderate success of Goldberg being announced as the pre-order bonus for the upcoming WWE 2K17 video game, with Paul Heyman convincing the higherups in WWE it would be a spectacle for Goldberg to return to face ‘The Beast Incarnate’. Goldberg has spoken how originally he was supposed to only come back for that one match and put Lesnar over.

It was only the night before Survivor Series that the finish of the match got changed. Brock didn’t want to lose to Goldberg as he saw too much money and potential on the table. So Lesnar and Heyman again orchestrated Goldberg to have an extended run in the company up until WrestleMania. They mapped out a storyline where Goldberg would go over and squash Lesnar to the shock of everyone. Then he would eliminate and humiliate Lesnar once more at the Royal Rumble. Then finally Lesnar would get the much-desired win back at WrestleMania 33.

Lesnar and Goldberg’s first match together got booed out of the building at WrestleMania XX. A stark contrast to the hellacious match they had at ‘Mania 33 that popped the crowd big.
