10 Wrestlers Who Regretted Jumping Ship
7. Mike Awesome
Whereas Raven and Douglas were former ECW champions when they jumped ship, Mike Awesome was still the reigning ECW World Heavyweight Champion when he attacked Kevin Nash on Nitro. The wrestling world was shocked as Awesome held the title hostage, refusing to hand the belt back until Paul Heyman paid him his due fees. Although WCW officials never showed Awesome on TV with the title, they consistently referred to him as ECW champion. After he agreed to lose the title to Tazz, a WWE-contracted wrestler, Awesome’s stock plummeted.
His badass aura dissipated due to two gimmick changes: The Fat Chick Thrilla, in which he became infatuated with overweight women, and That ‘70’s Guy, in which he arrived in arenas in a Partridge Family-style bus, wearing colorful leisure suits.
Fans treated the monster like a joke, and Awesome’s career never recovered.
