10 Wrestlers Who Remained Great Past 45

9. Tim Storm

Chris Jericho
NWA

For 400+ days, Tim Storm held NWA Championship in a time when the once mighty promotion appeared to be on death’s door. Not hugely well known or appreciated, Storm’s run with the legendary Ten Pounds of Gold was a far cry from the days of iconic champs like Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes.

For Storm, things began to turn around when new NWA owner Billy Corgan launched the YouTube series, Ten Pounds of Gold. Storm finally began to connect with a wider audience where he discussed his life as a grandfather, husband and school teacher. Authentic and sympathetic, fans’ view of Storm brightened considerably by the time he dropped the belt to Powerrr leading man, Nick Aldis.

Main eventing the highly successful first episode of Powerrr, the then 55 year old Storm rocked the house challenging Aldis for the title. With strong psychology and a dramatic last chance stipulation, Storm had the crowds firmly behind him as he scratched and clawed for a victory that tragically never came. Storm’s heartbreaking loss barred him from ever challenging for his cherished Ten Pounds of Gold again. The emotion of his performance and the connection made with the audience was incredibly impressive at any age.
