10 Wrestlers Who Saved World Championships

6. Edge - World Heavyweight Championship

Edge is not on here for one specific reign with the World Heavyweight Championship, but his collective efforts at cementing SmackDown's world title as the most prestigious belt in the company during the late 2000s. When you think of the big gold belt in WWE, more likely than not, your mind will go to Edge. The Ultimate Opportunist made that belt the biggest deal in the world through his dastardly heel antics, incredible charisma, impressive physical performances and storytelling prowess.

Whether he was engaging in one of the most unlikely relationships in WWE history with SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero, trying to murder The Undertaker, forcing his way into an Elimination Chamber match he wasn't booked for and winning, cashing in his Money in the Bank contract on SmackDown despite being a Raw superstar or just having excellent matches, Edge made the title a must see attraction whenever he was on screen.

It is still deeply moving that Edge's final reign with the World Heavyweight Championship was as a beloved babyface and that he got to retire (for nine years before his miraculous return) as the holder of the belt he helped define.
