10 Wrestlers Who Should Have Been Megastars By Now – But Aren’t

1. Roman Reigns

Completing the Shield hat-trick is Roman Reigns, which may seem odd given the company’s insistence of portraying him as the top guy. But one quick listen to any WWE audience will tell you that despite that backing, he’s certainly no megastar in the vein of a Hogan or an Austin.

Despite being the hand-picked star for the future, many fans just can’t seem to abide Reigns. It’s a struggle that’s been going on for years now, and though we’ll never know for sure, you get the feeling that this whole rigmarole could’ve been avoided if they’d just turned Reigns heel when the fans first demanded it.

Instead, they’ve ploughed ahead with the idea of Reigns as the top dog, headlining back-to-back-to-back WrestleManias as the heir apparent to John Cena. And the fan backlash hasn’t yielded one bit.

Much like we saw with The Rock in the late ‘90s, embracing the fan sentiment and turning Reigns heel could have earned him their approval and made an eventual face switch an actual success. But their flat-out refusal to do so has hurt Reigns and his potential to be the all-out megastar they so desperately want him to be.

Like others on this list, there’s still time for that to change, and Reigns may yet win the doubters over. If they’d just been a little more flexible, though, there’d arguably be no need to be talking about these hypotheticals—Reigns may already be there.
