10 Wrestlers Who Should Have Been Megastars By Now – But Aren’t
9. Dolph Ziggler
Unlike Barrett, Dolph Ziggler is still very much with the company—not that he’s in much of a better position for it.
He’s spent much of the past year bouncing between mid-card feuds and making up the numbers in multi-man main events that, realistically, you knew he didn't have a hope of winning.
It’s a far cry from his situation in 2013 when his post-WrestleMania Money in the Bank cash-in prompted the kind of pop that Stone Cold Steve Austin would’ve been proud of. With the iron absolutely piping hot, it seemed obvious that was the time to strike with a bonafide main event run for Ziggler. Or at least, obvious to everybody not named Vince McMahon.
Former writer Kevin Eck recently revealed that McMahon was adamant that the cash-in was not the beginning of a Ziggler push, but rather a means of creating "a big, surprise moment" for the post-WrestleMania Raw.
Perhaps Ziggler wouldn’t have been able to carry the entire company by himself, but based on those crowd reactions, had he been given the ball and allowed to run with it, his star would certainly be shining more brightly than it currently is.
