10 Wrestlers Who Should Never Have Made WWE Royal Rumble's 'Final 4'

3. Hercules (1990)

If X-Pac was the lucky recipient of the number 30 draw in 2000, a decade earlier the mighty Hercules (Jesse Ventura's words, not mine) was the lucky recipient of the number 29. By the time Herc' made it to the ring the match was all but over, as Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior had blown away the competition before their iconic stand-off. When Hercules got to the ring, there were three men plus number 30 left.

All of which meant that the final four was going to be Hogan, Mr. Perfect, 'Ravishing' Rick Rude, and one more, with the perennial WWF journeyman getting the nod for that fourth spot. The Barbarian made way, with his standing as a tag wrestler (at the time) possibly working against him back in 1990. Hercules was pretty much in the final four by default.

For modern context, think of this year's Rumble. Brock Lesnar and Goldberg have eliminated everyone, and then beaten the holy hell out of each other. Only four men are left to enter, and these four men are Konnor, R-Truth, The Miz, and Rusev. By the time Truth enters, Lesnar has been eliminated. Welcome to the final four, R-Truth!

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
