10 Wrestlers Who Should Never Turn Face

5. Charlotte Flair

WWE has tried to utilise Charlotte Flair as a babyface on a few occasions, but it just doesn’t work. Charlotte is wrestling royalty, the most dominant female wrestler of a generation and an absolute beast in the ring, but all of that sort of works against her when it comes to adulation. Fans love to cheer Ric, but he’s a genuine Mount Rushmore figure in the history of this business. Charlotte? Well, there will always be some resentment.

That is just the way it works when it comes to second and third-generation wrestlers. Stars need to align for the child of wrestling royalty to get cheered; you only need to look at how long it took for Cody Rhodes to be accepted as a babyface in the modern world. Throw in the support of management and the arrogance that is vital to being the best, and you’ve got a recipe for a lifetime heel.

Charlotte Flair is going to be a top performer in the women’s division for a very long time. For a main event babyface to be truly loved, there either needs to be a huge amount of empathy or charisma that is completely undeniable. Charlotte Flair fits neither category, quite the opposite, to the point where a babyface turn would be best described as ‘experimental’, but more accurately referred to as ‘misguided’.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
