9. Shinsuke Nakamura (WWE to AEW)
Has Shinsuke Nakamura's time in WWE been a success? If 'success' means being at the top of the card, main eventing WrestleMania for multiple years in a row and gaining a steady collection of belts in the process then probably not. If on the other hand you value a wrestler's happiness and consider their enjoyment of regular surfing sessions in the sea off the shore of Florida (judging by his Instagram account) then it's a certain yes. As is often the case, Nakamura treads a line between the two.
After a main event level career in New Japan the 'King of Strong Style' arrived in NXT in 2016 and tore the house down alongside Sami Zayn upon his debut. Hopes were indeed high that Nakamura could bring the hard hitting style alongside his natural charisma to the wider stage of WWE. The turning point came after Nakamura's win at the 2018 Royal Rumble. He went on to face a familiar foe in AJ Styles at WrestleMania. Fans were expecting something along the lines of their match at Wrestle Kingdom 10 inside the Tokyo Dome. Japanese Strong Style was surely about to hit the main event of WrestleMania. Sadly it ended up being just another match with the decision made at the end to turn Nakamura heel by having him low blow Styles in the post match sequence. It became something that would be repeated on numerous occasions in the weeks that followed, usually after Nakamura had been handed another defeat.
It appears that Nakamura will be letting his WWE contract expire soon and his next step in wrestling is is unclear. If he did want to make one last hurrah in the industry though then AEW might well be the place to reinvent himself.
