It took WWE over 10 years to finally push Kofi Kingston into the World Title picture. His memorable WrestleMania 35 win will go down in the annals of history as one of the most emotional ever, but it must've seemed like a million miles away when Kof was hearing Vince McMahon blast his work to anyone who'd listen.

He told talkSPORT how his heart sank back in 2007.

Kingston had just recorded some pre-debut vignettes for the ECW show on a beach, and even he knew that they were a tad goofy. Even so, he wasn't prepared to sit down at Gorilla one day, pick up a random headset and hear McMahon say the skits were "barely passable". That had to sting.

Vince's remarks disheartened Kofi to the point he figured he'd be fired sooner rather than later. That didn't happen, obviously - Kingston managed to change McMahon's mind and finally exorcised the demons of that miserable evening behind the curtain by becoming one of WWE's finest.
