7. Abdullah The Butcher

Portly, blade-loving brawler Abdullah The Butcher also suffered a grim fate at WCW's Halloween Havoc 1991 pay-per-view. He, like Sting approx nine years after him, would live to tell the tale and probably wonder why the writing team even bothered to kid on that he'd snuffed it on the air at all.

WCW's 'Chamber Of Horrors' match was a cavalcade of calamities. For the big finish, Abby was placed in a supposedly-electrified chair, Cactus Jack inadvertently pulled the switch (which was already set to "ON") and everybody watched The Butcher fry mid-ring. It was awkward, to say the least.

Abdullah wrestled Sting for the US Title on a house show four nights later.

Then, he returned to screens in time for the 3 November '91 episode of Main Event. His partner? Mick Foley, the same guy who had already dealt with the emotional ramifications of theoretically killing him the week before. What was that about wrestling being improbable and totally nonsensical?

You've gotta love it.
