10 Wrestlers Who Totally Wasted Their Own Potential
7. Ahmed Johnson
Those who only know Ahmed Johnson for those much-memed War Zone promos may laugh at this slide, but this big beefy lad absolutely should have been more in WWE.
He's a trendy guy to criticise. People only remember the botches, the sloppiness, and the promos. He's cast as a big green giant who injured a lot of people and hung around for too long. While this analysis isn't entirely unfair, it ignores the traits that could've made him a big, big deal within a Vince McMahon wrestling product.
A former Dallas Cowboys middle linebacker, he was a good athlete of tremendous power and surprising agility for his 6'4"/300lb frame. More than that, he carried himself like a force. Ahmed had a real presence to him in the mid-90s, the kind that can't be taught in a developmental system, and worked with a scary intensity atypical of the era. He could've been a credible something rather than the embarrassing nothing he eventually became.
Unfortunately, Johnson was never ever able to remove the aforementioned sloppiness from his game. That he injured several of his peers undoubtedly hindered his progress, as did his personal issues, and his career fizzled out when he was released from WCW in 2000.
