10 Wrestlers Who Transcended The Business
3. Randy Savage
When you dress and sound like The Macho Man did, it's hardly surprising that he was a massive pop culture icon.
Randy Savage was easily one of the most gifted performers in wrestling history. A natural athlete, Savage crafted memorable matches and feuds with the likes of Ricky Steamboat, Jake Roberts, and Diamond Dallas Page across his lengthy and successful career.
The Macho Man first appeared outside of wrestling on a 1996 episode of Baywatch, alongside other big names from WCW like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Big Van Vader.
He would appear in numerous high-profile TV shows from that moment on and would lend his iconic voice to animated characters in Dexter's Laboratory, Space Ghost Coast To Coast, and Duck Dodgers. He even ventured into the world of superheros, playing Bonesaw McGraw in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man.
American audiences probably know Savage best from the world of advertisements. From the mid-90s onwards, Savage became synonymous with meaty snack brand Slim Jims, starring in a number of their most famous commercials.
Many people still associate Macho Man with the brand. as he helped popularise their catchphrase - "Snap into a Slim Jim" - which is still used to this very day.
A guaranteed icon wherever he went, putting Savage in their commercials was easily the smartest choice Slim Jims ever made.
