10 Wrestlers Who Turned Face & Heel In The Same Year

7. Kevin Owens (2019)

Sometimes, a heel turn is so obvious that WWE doesn't even bother hiding it.

Kevin Owens returned from injury in early 2019 and found himself oddly inserted into Kofi Kingston's quest for the WWE Title. He took Kingston's place in a title match at Fastlane (like a heel), but was still being billed as a good guy. Then, following Kingston's triumph at WrestleMania 35, he even joined The New Day to replace Big E.

Guess how long that lasted.

To the surprise of no-one, Owens turned on his new friends one week later to set up a title defence at Money In The Bank. Instead of building a multi-month rivalry between Kofi and KO that would've justified this rapid betrayal, the champion instead went into a programme with Dolph Ziggler.

As for KO, he began a rivalry with Shane McMahon that would last pretty much the entire year, and that turned him back into a face. To recap, Owens returned from injury, joined a faction, turned heel, had a title match, and then turned face again within the space of about 4 months.

Baffling.
