10 Wrestlers Who Were Stuck In Midcard Purgatory

2. Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler is the only man on this list to win a world championship in WWE, but both of his title reigns were shambolic to say the least. The first one ended before the night was over, and the second one was cut short by injury. Both of those bad experiences seem to have led to the ghost being given up, and Ziggler has been treading water in the middle of the card ever since.

That isn't to say that WWE hasn't given the impression that a major push could be on the way. In 2014 he had what many considered a career-making performance in surviving the Team Cena vs. Team Authority Survivor Series match, a performance that was followed up by more Intercontinental Championships.

A sign of Ziggler's place came earlier in the year, when The Show-Off became the number one contender to Dean Ambrose's WWE Championship. Ambrose and Ziggler were guaranteed to put on a good to great match, but nobody believed Ziggler was going to win. He has always been presented as being just a step below the main event after all.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
