10 Wrestlers Who Were Stuck In Midcard Purgatory

4. Cesaro

This may not be the case in 12 months time. Cesaro is the current key holder to midcard purgatory, a precociously talented performer whose place on the card baffles pretty much everyone outside of those who decide the pecking order. If there is a better in-ring performer in WWE today, I'm not sure who it is.

But Cesaro is getting dangerously close to being universally perceived as a man just below main event level. As mentioned earlier, if a man gets passed over for main event pushes too many times the fans will stop believing that they are ever going to get it, and as such give up on the performer in any meaningful sense.

Cesaro's biggest undoing could well be his incredible ability, which provides WWE with so much value. The Swiss Superman is guaranteed to improve everyone around him, a most desirable characteristic for any midcarder.

Here's hoping that he escapes sooner rather than later.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
