Ron Simmons would like everyone to forget that he once dressed like this.

The ex-WCW World Champ was drafted in as a credible opponent for Vinnie Mac pet project Ahmed Johnson in 1996. It was an inauspicious start for Simmons. He looked like a complete berk in his gladiatorial garb, and Sunny was a strange choice to be his manager. Faarooq Asad sucked as a name too, especially to fans who knew Ron from the WCW days.

Then, something amazing happened. By November, Faarooq had ditched Sunny, removed his stupid-as-f*ck helmet, got serious and formed the Nation Of Domination. That faction's creation didn't halt his feud with Ahmed, but it did turn Faarooq into a far more menacing prospect for the babyface.

It didn't take long before the resurgent heel left Ahmed behind. Faarooq even got over enough to blag a WWF Title shot against The Undertaker at King Of The Ring '97, and that said it all. He couldn't work miracles with Johnson, but Simmons could grab headlines for himself.
