10 Wrestlers Who Were Unmasked In The Ring
1. Rey Mysterio
Arguably one of the most famous masked wrestlers working in the WWE today, Rey Mysterio has been wrestling for over thirty years. It can also be argued that he was the most high-profile victim of WCW's unmasking-heavy booking period.
Trained by his Uncle, Rey Misterio Sr (as featured in entry number 5) he debuted in 1989 and moved from AAA to ECW, honing his signature high-flying style. Despite his small stature, he carved out a reputation for himself as an exceptional worker.
When he made the move to WCW in 1996, he won the Cruiserweight Championship a number of times while feuding with Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and others.
In 1999 he lost a mask vs hair mask while teaming with Konnan against Nash and Hall. When he took his mask off in the ring, his disappointment is clearly visible and he has since been easily the most vocal about the booking decision.
In a revealing quote, he lambasted Bischoff by saying that he had no regard for what the mask meant to these men and their families, far less the traditions of Lucha.
He hoped the fans could understand his position - lose his mask or lose his job.
