10 Wrestlers Who Were Unmasked In The Ring
3. Abyss
Although Christopher Parks is currently employed by the WWE, his most famous character is his portrayal of Abyss in TNA, where he worked for seventeen years.
He was a monster heel, huge in stature and powerful in the ring - often seeing opponents off with his "Black Hole Slam". Abyss has held the X Division title, a number of tag team belts and the Heavyweight title amongst others.
After wrestling under the mask for almost a full decade, a second character was introduced by TNA that was named "Joseph Park". In an idea too on-the-nose to be called a nod, this man was the brother of Abyss, looked exactly like him (albeit better groomed) and even had the middle and last name of Abyss as his own.
It was later revealed through plot points that don't need repeated here that Joseph was actually a manifestation of the split-personality of Abyss rather than his brother.
While the decision to appear as his real self (or alter ego, or brother) may have taken away a lot of Abyss' mystique, it also should be noted that the man himself felt the character needed a shake up.
Whether it was a mistake or not is up to you.
