10 Wrestlers Who Were World Champions In More Than One Company At The Same Time
5. Will Ospreay
From two men who helped establish the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to the man who currently holds the belt that replaced it.
Will Ospreay became IWGP World Heavyweight Champion at Sakura Genesis 2021, overthrowing Kota Ibushi to capture his first world title in New Japan. Despite mixed reactions to the new belt's design, many fans were behind Ospreay finally getting the strap in Japan.
And it wasn't like he wasn't used to being a world champion.
In February 2020, Ospreay defeated long-time rival, Zack Sabre Jr., for the British Heavyweight Championship. The title is defended in UK promotion, RevPro - New Japan's partner here in Blighty. Ospreay has managed to hold onto the title ever since, thanks in no small part to a certain pandemic. In fact, Ospreay has only defended the belt twice since he won it over 400 days ago.
No doubt it's Will's Japanese commitments that have kept him out of the RevPro scene. As the world opens up again, hopefully the UK company can have some much-needed attention courtesy of the IWGP Champion.
