10 Wrestlers Who Were World Champions In More Than One Company At The Same Time

4. Jerry Lawler

The last major televised inter-promotional title match on US TV before Omega vs Swann featured two legends of the business.

Jerry "The King" Lawler had won the American Wrestling Association (AWA) world title from Curt Hennig in May 1988, setting up a big time clash with another icon - Kerry Von Erich. The man known as The Texas Tornado in WWF had just won the WCWA World Heavyweight Championship three days earlier, but was putting his title on the line against Lawler's at SuperClash III.

The event, which took place in Chicago, was the only AWA event to ever air on Pay-Per-View. It will forever go down in history as the night that Lawler beat Von Erich to capture the WCWA title, becoming a dual champion in the process.

The move actually signalled a merger between the two companies, the history of which is long and complicated. All you need to know is that the two titles were eventually abandoned in favour of the brand new USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship.

Lawler would go onto dominate that championship's history, holding it a whopping 28 times.

It really is good to be the King.
