10 Wrestlers Who Were Wrongly Judged On ONE Match

5. Tom Magee Is The Next Hulk Hogan

Time for something a little bit different.

Vince McMahon's eyes lit up when he watched Bret Hart carry Tom Magee to a house show stunner in October 1986. Obviously, when asked for his thoughts on the match at the time, McMahon would've omitted "Bret Hart carry" from the prior sentence. He thought Magee was going to be his next Hulk Hogan.

Hart wrote in his autobiography that he didn't receive a lot of praise for the bout. Instead, Vince and his hangers-on flocked around Tom. They showered the newbie with serious praise, and everybody agreed that he was a World Champ in waiting. Bret knew that wasn't the case - he eagerly watched Magee's follow-up matches knowing they wouldn't come close to his carry job.

They...weren't great. Typically, everyone fawning over Magee soured on his prospects after watching efforts against such luminaries as Terry Gibbs, Barry O and 'Iron' Mike Sharpe. Suddenly, McMahon didn't see dollar signs any longer, and Tom's star faded as quickly as it had burned.
