Let's be frank; it is an absolute gift that Rey Mysterio is still wrestling in WWE at this point. At many points during the legendary superstar's career, it has seemed as though injuries were going to prevail, that Rey's days were over. Time after time, the former World Heavyweight Champion proves medical science wrong, continuing a career that is now in its fifth decade. No, that isn't a typo.

Nobody will be surprised if Rey finds himself on the opposite side of the ring from a world champion now and then, but winning another world title? That may well be a step too far for even this miracle worker. Rey transcended preconceptions and popular wisdom to win two world titles in his WWE career, but those preconceptions remain a major obstacle in the company. More world titles aren't forthcoming for the Master of the 619.

There has been no greater influence on modern professional wrestling than Rey Mysterio. His fingerprints are found all over the industry, from the high flying of men like Will Ospreay, Kota Ibushi and PAC all the way to the energetic comebacks of bigger men like Kevin Owens and Kenny Omega. Rey's place in history is assured, but there will be no more world titles added to his legacy.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
