10 Wrestlers Who Will Never Be WWE Champion Again

5. Chris Jericho

Major props must go to Chris Jericho for transforming himself from a WWE also-ran into one of the hottest wrestlers not working for Vince McMahon in under a year. It's a bold step that many of his contemporaries can perhaps derive inspiration from.

Will it convince Vince McMahon that he's worthy of another run as his franchise player, however? Probably not. With good reason, the chairman of the board always has his eye on the future, and at nearly 50 (albeit a ridiculously young nearly 50) Y2J doesn't have the legs.

Besides which, it's not entirely clear whether Jericho even has his sights set on the top of the WWE food chain anymore. Like latter-career Shawn Michaels and Undertaker, he seems content to play the selfless veteran, his primary function being to help younger wrestlers get over.

In other words, none of this is likely to bother him. He's having a tremendous time in NJPW, where he recently shared an early match of the year candidate with Kenny Omega, and he'll probably be publishing his 4,326th book later this year.

Good for him.
