10 Wrestlers Who Will Never Get Another Big Push
2. Curtis Axel
Paul Heyman is the best wrestling manager since Bobby Heenan, so it made sense to pair him up with different talent to try and get the most out of them. After experiencing major success with Brock Lesnar and CM Punk, he was gifted with Curtis Axel. Well, if anyone was going to get the former Michael McGillicutty over it was Heyman. Unfortunately, even geniuses don’t always create something great. For example, watch Francis Ford Coppola's Jack.
Axel flopped in a pretty big way. Despite winning the Intercontinental Title, he never caught on as a singles act in the slightest. He was cast in a role he simply wasn't capable of playing. Fans didn’t care what the guy did, they weren't biting. Even a feud with Triple H failed to elevate him.
Axel soon found himself stuck in a tag team with Ryback, and was later joined together with Damien Sandow in The Meta Powers, quite possibly one of the worst tag teams the company has ever created. If not an all-time dud, it was at least one of the most limiting.
After spending time in The Social Outcasts, it’s pretty clear management doesn’t think highly of Axel. Most fans probably don’t even know which brand he’s on (Raw...I think), as he’s almost never on TV. At 37-years-old, it’s not too late to be repackaged once or twice more, but it seems he’s much more likely to be a trainer, or out of the company altogether within a few years, rather than a legitimate star.
