Drew McIntyre had the year of his career - his inclusion on this list of prolific wrestlers is unlikely to shock anybody. McIntyre started the year in the best possible way, winning the Royal Rumble from #16, eliminating six competitors, and lasting almost 35 minutes. Though he was initially frustrated that his WrestleMania moment would happen without a crowd, his spirits lifted when he defeated Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship. Impressively he followed this win up with an immediate dark match, defending against Big Show.
McIntyre racked up pay-per-view defences against Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, and Dolph Ziggler. He entered a feud against Randy Orton, who was an ideal heel to build McIntyre up as a babyface champion. He defeated Orton twice, first in a singles match and then in an Ambulance match, before briefly losing the belt to him inside Hell in a Cell. McIntyre regained his championship on 16 November episode of Raw.
McIntyre ended the year on a high, defending his championship successfully in a wildly entertaining ladder match against AJ Styles and the Miz.
