From octogenarians birthing rubber hands to men falling in love with mops, WWE has always been fond of a wacky angle. In June 2007, WWE attempted one of the most baffling in company history. A forlorn Vince left RAW during ”Mr McMahon appreciation night”, and headed to his limousine passing several members of the WWE locker-room on his way. As he stepped into the limousine it exploded.

To add to the insanity, WWE treated McMahon's kayfabe death as a legitimate. The angle would only be dropped in the wake of the very real Benoit murder-suicide. In the aftermath of the aborted angle, one man would receive the chairman's wrath.

During McMahon’s walk to the exploding limousine, the performers he passed were instructed to look concerned for the chairman's sanity. The crowded corridor looked suitably sombre. However, Paul London could be seen grinning like a Cheshire cat. Many have speculated that, frustrated with his push, London deliberately went off script on live TV. Whatever the reason, the high flyer was on borrowed time from then on and was released from his contract in 2008, killing his WWE career with a single smile.
