Triple H would have better years ahead, but having him job to the always unreliable Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania 12 was a transparent burial of the blue-blooded character that he was performing as at the time.

WWE had been struggling for years to recapture the excitement around its product of the late 80s and early 90s, which made emerging talents like Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Rocky Maivia, Mankind, and Steve Austin an important part of the company's future. This is why it made no sense for WWE to have one of the young stars face the embarrassment of a WrestleMania squash, particularly at the hands of a performer so passed his prime in the Ultimate Warrior.

The result is made even worse considering that it has been said by the likes of Jim Ross and Jim Cornette, who were both highly involved in WWE at the time, that Warrior demanded to squash HHH. It represented the fragile ego of a top star of a bygone era trying to flex his political muscle once again, something that Triple H surely learned from going into his hugely successful wrestling career.
