10 Wrestlers WWE Loved Burying Over & Over

4. Mike Kanellis

Mike Bennett's time in WWE was so strange. To begin he debuted at Money in the Bank, appearing with his wife Maria Kanellis and heading straight to the main roster. It makes sense for massive stars like AJ Styles to go directly to the main stage, but Bennett was a bit of a surprise. Even decorated performers like Samoa Joe and Drew McIntyre did their time in NXT. Although Bennett was a great talent, he wasn't a performer at a higher quality than those names.

As soon as he appeared, everything became clear with JBL's reaction to him having taken his wife's name. Mike Kanellis was not here to be a strong presence, but a dated joke at masculinity in wrestling. This is precisely what ended up happening.

He lost plenty of matches and was consistently emasculated. We saw as his wife constantly acted melodramatically dominant over him, heard him being mocked for taking her name and even saw a reveal that his wife's child was not his.

This burial was more than just a win/loss record. He was essentially brought to the company for the sake of being mocked. In no way was a gimmick like this ever intended to be successful.

This proves that WWE enjoyed lowering the stock of this performer, as to them, it probably seemed incredibly funny.
