It's just a conveyor belt of madness, isn't it? One superstar after another, primed to become a megastar only to be dragged down into the quicksand of mediocrity by illogical booking and, for want of a less hackneyed term, the machine. WWE's roster is a who's who of people who could be what the company so desperately needs.

The tale of Rhea Ripley is particularly galling. The former NXT Women's Champion was one of 2019's major breakout stars, a totem pole in waiting around whom WWE could build for years to come. She was a genuine badass, carrying legitimacy and credibility in spades, shining in the landscape by virtue of her attitude, look, ability and aura.

Then she lost to Charlotte Flair and suffered a crisis of confidence.

WWE has botched Rhea Ripley when failure seemed impossible. Far from a lost cause, there's still time for the promotion to build Ripley up to be the star that she should be by now. Better late than never, or something like that.

Fans don't need to watch Rhea Ripley go through a meaningful search within. They need to see her beat people up and look cool as heck while doing it.

This isn't hard.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
