10 Wrestlers WWE Pushed Way Over Their Heads

4. Mabel

WWE haven't always done the best job when it comes to booking a convincing King Of The Ring winner, but nobody, not even Billy Gunn, can compare with Mabel. The future Viscera won the competition in 1995, and what followed was one of the most ill-advised main event pushes in WWE history.

King Mabel was supposed to become the WWF's top heel, and he entered a feud with WWF Champion Diesel in the lead up to SummerSlam. This resulted in a truly atrocious main event on the year's second big show, and while Diesel was never known for his in-ring finesse, Mabel made him look like Ricky Steamboat. The bout's badness was further enhanced by the fact that it took place directly after Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon's historic ladder match, and the King flopped to defeat in just over nine minutes, ending his main event run.

Kevin Nash has since speculated that Mabel's push was cancelled because he'd developed a reputation as a clumsy, reckless worker, and had already injured "six or eight" wrestlers prior to SummerSlam. Whatever the case, it was abundantly clear that the big man was being stretched well beyond his capabilities.
