10 Wrestlers WWE Realised Weren't 'The Man'

8. Tom Magee

"That's my next World Champion!".

WWF yes men must've been scurrying about with delight as Vince McMahon decreed that the handsome, muscular and athletic adonis Tom Magee was going to be his next pet project. Those apple-polishers would've been waiting to carry Magee's bags and do anything they could to ensure McMahon's new head boy was taken care of.

Or not. What McMahon didn't realise was that the brilliant Bret Hart had walked Magee through his 7 October 1986 breakout on a New York house show. Vince, who was watching backstage, looked past that and thought the bodybuilder was his next Hulk Hogan. That'd become a recurring theme, and recurring false dawn, for the boss.

Later matches showed up the roughness of Magee's performances. Suddenly, he wasn't the "next World Champion" at all, but just another muscle man who'd need serious help if he was going to bother the lower card acts (never mind the top ones).
