Nominated For: Best Sound, Best Visual Effects

Before they acquired delusions of weighty relevance beyond their station, comic book movies kept themselves honest, generally offering entertaining but ultimately insubstantial romps centred around silly Spandex costumes.

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man was very much in that mould - somewhat ironically given it instigated the never ending comic cycle - as evidenced by its corny pro wrestling scene which wouldn't dare grace the super-serious super-hero sphere today (nor Spidey's transphobic comments, but we won't get into that).

Today, that scene - and the movie as a whole, quite honestly - is best remembered for Randy Savage's fantastic portrayal as Bonesaw, or more accurately, as himself. Was his unique brand of grunting enough to earn Spider-Man the Best Sound Oscar? Ooooooh, yeeeeah!

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
