4. Val Venis - D-Generation X

Rude, crude, and lewd, D-Generation X were the perfect embodiment of WWE's switch towards an edgier, adult-oriented product in the Attitude Era. The Triple H/Shawn Michaels led group's crass immaturity helped carry the company through their most successful period, and if it weren't for them (and the Austin vs. McMahon feud), there's a chance WWE would've perished in the Monday Night Wars.

The faction's crude humour should have suited Val Venis, who debuted with WWE in 1998, and was earmarked for a spot in the stable. It was Vince Russo's idea, but the group said "no" to the company's resident porn star, stating that he didn't think Val was a good fit for DX.

It was probably the right decision. While both parties leaned heavily on sexual innuendo to get over, they took completely different routes with it, and while DX were portrayed as childish high-schoolers, Venis opted for pure sleaze. X-Pac also stated in a 2016 interview with Sports Illustrated that he felt adding another member to the group may have upset their backstage chemistry, which sounds very political, and probably was, given the individuals involved.
