8. Kane and The Hurricane

At some point in 2002, someone in WWE’s offices noticed that “Kane” sounds like the last syllable of “The Hurricane”, and from that germ of creative bankruptcy was born a surprisingly fun little team that didn’t outstay its welcome and notched up a run as Tag Team champions.

Kane was at a bit of a loose end in late 2002. The writers tried everything in their power to freshen him up - i.e they gave him a new weird half-mask - but he was languishing in the midcard. One night on Raw, he had landed a Tag Title shot against Christian and Lance Storm, his partner yet to be revealed.

It turned out to be The Hurricane, Gregory Helms’ oft-underrated, always delightful super-heroic alter ego. The two masked grapplers dispatched their Canadian foes in short order, delivering simultaneous chokeslams for the win, and team Hurri-Kane was born.

The whole experiment was done a month later and it wouldn’t trouble the highlight reel of either man, but as Kane would go on to show with Daniel Bryan, he has a remarkable deftness of comic touch for a big red nutter.
