For any male, the idea of the genitalia being subjected to any kind of pain is quite a sickening thought. Imagine the horror of fans when Val Venis very nearly became the next John Wayne Bobbitt. In 1993, Bobbitt's wife cut his penis clean off, instantly making him infamous. The WWF even wheeled the man out to try and sell the Val Venis angle to fans. Feuding with Kaientai, Venis was found fornicating with the leader's young wife. This was unacceptable in the eyes of Yamaguchi-San, the man in question. Ordering his troops to capture Venis, the elderly gang leader wielded a sword and threatened to cut off Val's genitals. Even though Yamaguchi did clearly swing the weapon in the direction of Venis, it was said later that Val actually escaped. Therefore, he hadn't suffered the same fate as John Bobbitt. Exactly what happened in the intervening milliseconds between the sword being used and the camera fading out was never explained. This helped made the story even more sickening, because it was never fully told to fans. In fairness, few complained.
