10 Wrestling Careers Damaged By The WWE Draft

It wasn’t fully the draft from Raw to SmackDown that killed Muhammad Hassan’s career, but it put into motion the events that would seal his doom. On June 23rd, Hassan and his manager Daivari were drafted over to SmackDown. On July 24th, Hassan wrestled his last match ever.

SmackDown was taped on July 4th, 2005 and they ran an angle with Hassan's manager Daivari losing to The Undertaker. If only it had ended there. Post-match a bunch of men who were suspiciously dressed like terrorists, beat down Taker and lifted Daivari off as if he’d just sacrificed himself. The angle was in poor taste, but the show aired the day of The London Bombings, and advertisers and the network were unhappy to say the least.

Hassan took time off of TV until the Great American Bash, where he was destroyed by The Undertaker. Had he never been drafted to SmackDown, he wouldn’t have had the feud with Taker, and it would be unlikely for that angle to have taken place. However, it’s also likely that Vince would have found something incredibly offensive for the character to do anyway. So the draft probably only sped up Hassan’s demise.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
