10 Wrestling Careers We Wish Had Lasted Longer

4. Steve Austin

At his peak, 'Stone Cold' was almost certainly the biggest star in professional wrestling history, and yet his mega-run was fairly short-lived: he claimed his first world title in 1998, and wrestled his last (and he wasn't messing around when he said last) match almost exactly five years later. He was only 38 when a neck injury saw him trade his role as face of the company for one as an on-screen authority figure.

With six WWE Championship reigns, a record three Royal Rumble wins (and the corresponding 'Mania main events that came with them), the man undeniably crammed a hell of a lot into that time. Still, we never got to see Austin against Lesnar, nor Austin against Goldberg. Nor, for that matter, Austin against Hogan - although it's entirely possible we still wouldn't have seen that, even if he carried on going until he was 50.
