Once it became clear that Cena would be jobbing to The Undertaker in a few minutes at WrestleMania 34, WWE's original plan called for him to sit in the live crowd for just 10 minutes beforehand. The company's top-brass didn't want Cena sitting out amongst the people in New Orleans any longer than that due to fears for his safety.

Another reason was that Cena might pull attention away from what was happening in the ring.

It was John himself who laughed off such concerns and told WWE management he needed to be seen sitting in the crowd for at least an hour or so. This is something Cena discussed during an interview with Sports Illustrated, and he believed fans wouldn't buy it unless he was seated alongside them for a prolonged period.

Seeing Cena's over-the-top reactions to matches like Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka or The Miz's entrance for the opening Intercontinental Title Triple Threat was actually one of the show's early highlights. John looked like he was having a ball.
