10 Wrestling Facts We Didn’t Know Last Week (May 31)

1. JR Was Asked To Teach El Gigante Promos

El Gigante WCW

When he wasn't announcing WCW's TV shows in the early-90s, Jim Ross was working diligently behind the scenes to help improve the product. Sometimes, the trust put in him went against JR. Case in point: being asked to teach Argentinian big man El Gigante how to cut promos in English.

And you thought getting over the 'Fake' Diesel and Razor Ramon characters in 1996 was tough.

The real-life Jorge González barely spoke any English, and he didn't quite grasp the art of the wrestling interview. Ross said on his 'Grilling JR' podcast that he tried to keep things simple by telling Gigante to decry top heel Ric Flair's antics as a disgrace. That's when the giant gently offered up the line, "Ric Flair, I will kill you".

Ross sighed to himself and reminded Gigante that he couldn't say he'd murder someone on WCW television. Again, the big man repeated his line, and JR knew he was on a hiding to nothing. Gigante wasn't going to click no matter how hard he tried.
