10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week

1. Sting Initially Called Himself 'Stinger' When Teaming With Warrior

Back before he was known as an 'Icon', Steve Borden was just another fresh-faced bodybuilder looking to make a name for himself in pro wrestling. During his early run in the industry, Borden teamed with Jim Hellwig to form 'The Bladerunners'. The pair had been standouts at wrestling camp, and had developed into pretty good friends along the way. Looking to give themselves a gimmick that would help them stand out, the pair decided to paint their faces and mimic The Road Warriors. Power tag-teams were all the rage in the 1980's, and The Bladerunners had the bodies to join in on the fun. Seeking names for their characters, Borden titled the future Ultimate Warrior by calling him 'Rock'. Eventually, Borden himself would use the name 'Flash'. That wasn't his original choice, because he actually wanted to be called 'Stinger'. Of course, that name would become his trademark. Unbelievably, even when he did start using that moniker, it was shortened by others to 'Sting'. This wasn't the man's doing, which is really quite fascinating to learn.
